Italian Cuisine and Sharpie Markers
What a fun night! Ever since Alpha team won the scavenger hunt, they've been planning a night out to celebrate. (I told them I was going with them. I wasn't going to be excluded from all the fun.) :)

Charles, Derek, Manda & Mom were on the winning team. Many phone calls, emails, and executive decisions later, we opted for Applebee's. Charles decided at the last minute that he couldn't make it, but there were still four of us, and, as someone said later at the table-for-four, "if we'd had more people, we wouldn't have all fit." :)

We waited for a few minutes in the front of the restaurant; Derek watched Green Acres on the overhead TV, Manda kept laughing at something in the menu, and I tried to figure out what it was, while still pretending to ignore her completely. Mom was the only one who had her meal chosen before we sat down.

They put us at one of those high tables with chairs that you have to climb up to get on top. The waitress seemed barely tall enough to see over the table. When she asked for drink orders, three of us ordered their raspberry lemonade. I'd been hearing how absolutely fabulous it is for some time. Quite to my disappointment, and Derek's apparent devastation, there was none to be had. We were forced to submit ourselves to the kiwi, strawberry, or "wild berry" lemonades. (And we all know what those "wild berry" flavors are like.) Thus semi-contented with my strawberry, we stuck all our straws in each other's flavors to try them out. Manda alone retained the privilege of keeping all her drink to herself. She had asked for Sierra.

I'm so glad I ordered what I did. It was completely scrumptious and if you ever go to Applebee's without trying their Three Cheese Chicken Penne Pasta, I shall hold you disloyal to the title of cuisine lover. Oh, it was so good! I have such a hard time finding foods I like. And, no, I'm not picky. I'm a connoisseur of fine cuisine. I like good food. It's so seldom I hit on a restaurant that I like. I had been to AB's before, but I'd had a burger, and (though I suppose you musn't judge a chef by his burger) I had no desire to go again. But now, of course, I'd be more than happy to return anytime I'm in the mood for Italian food. Oh, yum! Not that I ate much that night. I hadn't eaten all day, and felt rather sick to my stomach at having so much of a sudden, but as it was not a serious malady, it did not hinder my having fun. :)

I couldn't tell you what we talked about. We were laughing the whole time. Manda kept me entertained just by sitting next to me. The lemon and the fork are engrained on my memory. :) :) :)

I asked to make a quick stop at Michael's Crafts, where I needed to purchase three or four straw hats for the accursed dolls I was trying all evening to forget. Once inside and with hats in hand, I searched the store for glue. You wouldn't think it'd be that hard to find, but I had to ask three people. That done, I found that Mom and Derek had followed Manda and me inside.

I tried. I honestly did. I got in line just as soon as I had my things together. Manda was with me. Derek too. But Mom had seen something she wanted to look at. Then, as Derek and I stood arguing over whether or not it was ethical to approach a newly opened cash register when four people had been waiting in front of you, Manda wandered off. I, in a huff and disdaining to argue further with my antagonist, stepped up to render payment for my purchases.

When I finished with the man at the counter and came round to find my people, Manda accosted me with, "Derek's going to buy us all little Sharpie markers. Pick out a color." I picked purple. Mom had orange. They were tiny little highlighters that attached to a key chain.

As Derek would not allow Manda to walk from the restaurant to the store, we asked leave to "take a turn" in front of the store while Mom bought her handful of discoveries. Permission thus extracted, we paced back and forth . . . hmm . . . maybe twice? before heading to the next store on the block. I had to call a cell phone to let the rest of our party know where we'd disappeared to. Manda was in the back of the store by the time they reached the door. She was looking for shoes to accompany a new dress. I don't think she found them that night. In fact, I think I'm still waiting to see the dress. (Manda!)

'Twas a fun evening. I hope I'm on the winning team next year . . .

Sounds like you had a wonderful evening! When we go to Applebee's (like once a year) I always get the Chicken Ceasar Salad, I always get salads. hehehe. I'll have to have someone else get the stuff you reccommended and try it because I don't think I can part with my salad. :-)

I have had their CC Salad. It's good, but I think they put a little too much dressing on it.

Yeah, that's why I ask for the dressing on the side. ;-)

Believe it or not, I never thought of that.

Seriously?! I always ask for it on the side, I rarely use all they give me. :)

Sounds like some kind of sports thing, but in reality, the ShugaBowl is just a little hideaway for me, Sugarcube herself, to let loose my thoughts and occasional creativeness.
