I know, I've been the world's least faithful blogger this week. Don't forgive me. I've been bad.

It's been a bad week.

First those wisdom teeth came out and gave me all those problems. On Friday, I rode over to Lancaster and felt ready to die the whole trip. Then Saturday, we of course had to come home. Then I got a touch of flu on Monday morning and felt lousy all day. Then yesterday I wasn't quite recovered when I caught a sore throat from somebody, I'm just not sure who.

Most of these things had their upside. The day after the dentist trip, I was consoled by Rachel's bridal shower and spending time with the Davis girls. That was great fun. Manda, remember the pink soap? Whoosh. Then Lancaster wasn't so bad. I don't really like Lancaster. In fact, I think it's the winding roads that really turns me off to those shopping trips, but as long as there was a wedding to go to, I was going to be there anyway. So shopping was fun that time. Got new shoes. *smiles*

The wedding was cool. Not like other weddings I've been to. (Haven't been to many.) Pics below.

We ate at an elusive restaurant. Yes, elusive. It moves all the time and we only happened upon it this time by accident. I tried clam chowder for the first time last Friday. Clams have much the same consistency as balloons, but they taste different. Kinda seafoody. It was good. I had never had it before and had been craving it ever since I saw it (don't kill me for being so silly) on the ND PCgame. I couldn't remember what started my craving until Jbear mentioned it. Then I remembered.

Stayed at a hotel with no ironing board. Can you believe it? What kind of hotel doesn't provide an ironing board in the room?? I had to call to the front desk and ask for one, then go down in the dark to pick it up and it ended up being only this little bitty thing that wasn't any more helpful than a screen door in a submarine!

So anyway, the wedding was fun. It made up for any other discomforts.

Here's the pics I referred to earlier.

Josh & Gloria Elisabeth

Josh and Nathaniel escorted the flower girls, Gloria and Hannah, to the front of the church, looking just as debonaire and adorable as they could well do. :)

Sarah and her dad

Mr. Einwechter with his daughter on his arm. What a gorgeous bride!

Mr. & Mrs!

Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Phero

On entering the reception hall, the new couple was greeted with applause and camera flashes.

Q-T!!!

Hannah and Nathaniel sat across from the bridal party at lunch. Nathaniel was most anxious to rid himself of several flowers pinned to his lapel. I believe he eventually succeeded in removing the whole jacket.

Looks yummy!

The cake was beautiful. Getting a shot like this is almost hazardous to one's health, with all the little ones that gather around the table when they realize dessert is about to be served. :)

Dueling Banjos

The bride's father and brothers delighted our family in particular with tunes like the Wildwood Flower, and all the guests in general with others such as Beverly Hillbillies. This song is apparently often requested by their new nephew/grandson, Nathaniel.

See the cutie in the Scotch outfit? What a doll!

A hard time they had escaping the reception hall. As soon as everyone heard they were leaving, throwing birdseed suddenly became the activity of choice, for the little boys in particular as you can see in this photo. They were so ardent in their pursuit, that dust ended up on many suits opposite the way and much birdseed landed in coffee cups belonging to the wearers of said suits.

    Les,
Hope you are feeling better!! Your teeth need to get in line and stop giving you so much pain. :)

Thanks so much for the pictures and descriptions of the wedding. Everyone looked wonderful. How I miss those dear kids! Do you have any pictures of Nathanael and HannahGrace walking down the aisle together?

Sorry, darling, I don't have one of them. I didn't have a seat on the aisle and asked someone else to take the pictures for me. Hence, I have only what they had time to take. :P

Too Late? or Not Soon Enough?
I know I'm a bit tardy, but here are some pics from my trip to PA. This first one if of my cousin Dan (far left) and his siblings Shannon, Dustin and Dillon.

Danny Shannon Dustin & Dillon

This is my littlest cousin, Tanner, running through the weeds and pretty much getting as muddy as he could. It took a while to coax him out. Digitial cameras are wonders to a three-year-old.

Impish little thing

It didn't take him long to retreat back into his forbidden terrain.

All the encouragement he needed was for Dustin to walk down, and he would most willingly follow.

This is Tanner's sister, Marissa. She spent her day playing as close to the ducks and fish as she could without ever actually getting wet herself.

Just a chair and a fishin' pole

Grandma became the most popular girl at the ball as soon as she tried to leave with the cake. :)

Belle of the Ball

When it became too crowded indoors, the only warm place to retreat was to the fire outside.

Finally
My own blog. With my own blog design. That no one has ever had before. And no one else has now. And no one else will ever have again.

I feel very original. Very expressive of my own unique self.

Plus, my blog is very cool.

HOORAY!!

No matter how many aspects of today should rightfully contribute to one of those legendary "bad days,"

no matter that I woke up with a sore throat,

no matter that I have to go to the dentist,

that I have a bad hair day, or that nothing has gone right in the sewing department all week long,

no matter what goes wrong today, I will have a good day.

Why? Because I am an Irish princess. And princesses don't have bad days. :)

Happy Ireland Day!

Batman Begins: a movie review
Not really knowing much about how movie reviews are conducted, I give you my version.

Ahem.

Plot-
The writing was awesome. I love what I often refer to as the "Scarlet Pimpernel" problem, which is, making yourself look like a fool so as to throw suspicion. Even to the point of losing the girl he's fighting for, Bruce Wayne decides to "do what is necessary" to hide his identity and keep her safe. I also thought the former-mentor-turned-bad-guy idea was catching. Always liked it when two friends split up and had to fight each other, e.g. National Treasure, Ben Hur, Spiderman. All in the same line. I also like the fact that, while a little romance is there, the whole movie doesn't center around it. It centers around Batman, not Batman and Rachel. Thank you Hollywood for finally producing something cool.

Cast-
Christopher ??? what's his last name???
I love. His features should be less sharp for the character of Bruce Wayne, but Batman needs to have that determination in his look. He was great in this character. Great protrayal of a man with problems.

Liam Neeson
Exceptional. I love this actor. I never could figure out why they wouldn't cast him as the bad guy, but they finally did. He's great! He plays the wise mentor so perfectly that you almost imagine yourself watching StarWars. And yet, he makes such a great bad guy. ;)

Michael Caine
Not the person I would have picked, but pulls his weight surprisingly well. In the role of Bruce's butler(?), Alfred, he represents Bruce's conscience, reminding him that, though he is Batman and is superhuman to the rest of the town, he is also Bruce Wayne and important in the lives of those he loves, including himself.

"Rachel Dauss"
Cute!!!! What an adorable girl to play the longtime friend! I love her. Most of the time, I sit through the movie complaining that they shouldv'e gotten someone better looking or less stuck-up, but this girl takes the cake. Just wish I could remember her name . . .

Morgan Freeman
I just like the guy. He can't play a character badly.

Music-
Whoa! The music was intense! It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and considering that it was broad daylight when I watched it, this was a feat. I wouldn't listen to the soundtrack, just because it's liable to wear you out doing just that.

Clothes-
Apart from the young ladies he hangs out with as Bruce Wayne, I love the clothes. "Rachel" is expressed just by looking at her. You know what kind of friend she is the Bruce, and what kind of worker she is for her boss. Down to earth girl. "Bruce" is expressed well by his clothing also. One minute, the good-looking businessman with everything together, the next minute, an ordinary guy at home with nothing interesting to do. That ninja dude, whose name I probably couldn't spell if I could remember it correctly, ("Am I pronouncing this right? Raz-al-goo?") had awesome clothes. Very together. Very collected.

Action/Effects-
Good. Certainly better than the last Batman movie. *rolls eyes*

My favorite scene-
The calling of reinforcements. That was so cool! I love how he called for back-up!

My favorite lines-
"Make and model?" "It's a black . . . uh . . . tank."
"It's time Falconi shared my fear."
"You plan on gassing yourself often?" "Well, you know how it is. It's late at night. You're out lookin' for kicks. Someone's passin' around a deadly halucinogen."
"Bats are nocturnal."
"Can you drive stick?"
"Nice car." "You should see my other one."
And the ever popular- "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

Pretty Princess Risks All to Reach Land of Red Dot
Tuesday and Wednesday passed without anything more exciting than burning my hand on the woodstove. That's not really my kind of excitement, but hey, you take what you get. :)

Thursday was taken up in finally finishing getting my room cleaned. It's so nice to have a clean room. I don't know why I don't do it more often. I still have a few junk drawers to go through, but that's not bad, only a few hours work. We rented Batman Begins, which I've been wanting see since it first came out. I still wanted to watch it, but I hadn't seen Manda in months, so I invited her over for the evening. *smiles*

What fun! Manda, you're so awesome! I met her at the back door, where she came in hiding something behind her back. "What in the world?" I thought. She made me give her a plate and close my eyes for her surprise. "No peeking," but I turned my back to avoid temptation. When I turned around, I held a plate of pink sugar frosted PopTarts. :) Oh yum! I love poptarts.

We snuck past the living room where Bruce Wayne was pretending to be a billionaire, and secluded ourselves in my bedroom. We played Pretty Pretty Princess twice. I had never played before, but I'd seen the game around since I was little. I had so much trouble getting my accessories together, but I finally won the first game. Then Manda won the second game. (that infernal black ring! the bane of any true princess!)

Then we sat on the bed and looked at scrapbooks.I hadn't done pictures in a while, but it was still more recently than Manda had seen them. Our poptarts started dwindling, and so I offered to make popcorn. Down the stairs we went. Batman seemed to be in full force. A bowl, a bag of corn and a couple glasses of water made us ready for Twister.

Good heavens! When you play Twister with Amanda, she makes it up as she goes along. And I swear to you, she decides on the move that will give her the easiest time and you the most trouble. I'm serious! I fell three times before I caught on to her, and then made her reach for that last red dot. *sinister smile*

That was great fun!

On Finishing A Project . . .
Those little dresses were so, so adorable! I couldn't keep from working on them, and so I finished the sleeve insertion at an earlier-than-expected time. Of course, I hadn't time to work on them Saturday, what with cleaning my room and cleaning the bathrooms and grocery shopping and being sad that my sleepover was cancelled. So I worked on them Monday morning. And by Monday at noon, they were all finished. I was glad that they were done, but I was rather disappointed that I didn't have more little clothes to work on. (I love little clothes!)

I called Danielle to let her know they were done. She said she'd be right down to get them.

This time, keeping her longer than she expected to stay was not my fault. It was the fault of that insurance salesman. Honest, I showed her the dresses and she was ready to go, when I looked out the back and saw through the office window a strange man in a red shirt, a black suit and a ponytail. I said, "Who is that guy?"

Mom thought that perhaps the house inspector from the addition licensing office had come a day early, but I said, "No, he doesn't look like one of the guys down there."

Mom went out to investigate. He was trying to sell my dad insurance. It's like offering water to a drowning man, I mean really! But he had been next door and sold a policy to our neighbor, when he saw my dad outside working on the house, spotted his opportunity and came over. And I thought door-to-door salesmen were extinct. :)

So anyway, we couldn't let Dani go outside with that guy out there. He might follow her home and try to sell her some insurance too. She sat down and we offered her tea. We relived last Friday. It seems to me we covered the same exact topics in a lot less time. :)

I can't wait to see you at the shower, Dani. Then after your life settles down, we'll have to have a crochet lesson, hmm?

iMpRoMpTu TeA pArTiEs ArE fUn!
So anyway, Dani came with her mom and Rachel. Dani hadn't seen the house since before we started the addition. (Remember, Cara, she was at camp for your birthday) So we had lots of catching up to do. Rachel showed me the dresses and the fabric for the sleeves. I can't divulge national secrets, so you'll just have to wait till the wedding to see them. :)

How does that little poem go?

We sit. We sip.
We chat. We chew.
What great times we have,
we two.

We talked for a long time about lots of different things, you know how it is. We discussed Rachel's wedding and her furniture shopping experiences. Then we talked about Chicago and how I liked it out there. Danielle told me about her latest attempts to find a job. (that's always hard. you can always find a job, but finding one you want to work at, that's a whole different deal) Mom and Mrs. Bruce had their own little conversation, occasionally merging with ours and then veering off on their own again. Much like a series of information superhighways, as James would say, are five girls who haven't seen each other in ages when they finally sit down for tea together.

We showed pictures of Tori. Mom told about her birthday and the new swing she got. Rachel showed us a picture (online) of her wedding dress. We pictured the bridesmaids' dresses in our minds because she couldn't bring up the page with them on it. Then suddenly, we realized it was time for James' piano lesson to end. (!!!) Two minutes after Mom left with Mrs. Bruce, the phone rang, asking if someone was going to pick it up. When I picked it up, James was there, asking if someone was going to pick him up. While they were gone, we girls mostly sat around at the table listening to the phone ring every two minutes. Each time, I got up and hurdled the little fence to the front rooms and it was never for me. It was always someone with a message or a fax for Dad.

Soon after the return of the music man, the girls had to leave. I couldn't believe we had kept them so long! But we hadn't seen them in forever and it was nice to spend time with them again. :)

Catching Up
It has been a while since I've blogged about normal stuff. Well, I mean normal for me. The weird thing is that the fewer words I use the more other people have to say. This could be significant if it were a normal conversation, but since this is my blog, I think it is my right to spout off and say as much as I want without interupption. Whatever.

Last Thursday, Mom and James and I were shopping at the Cumberland mall. (yeah, yeah, not like Deptford, but we didn't have time to ride there) Mom had some shopping to do at the mall and I had some stuff to get at Michael's. (cute little hats for my little amish boy dolls) Mom was shopping in the kitchen store up there, and so James and I didn't hang around long. After scouring the whole store and finally deciding with despair that not even a craft store sold the little straw hats I wanted, I found them hiding in the wrong aisle. They were next to the feather boas and the jewelry-making stuff. (???) Mission accomplished, we had lots of time to blow before Mom would be ready.

Marshalls provided the nearest entrance to the mall. I had been looking to replace those little earrings I had lost one of, (you remember, the cute dangly ones?) I dragged James all the way through the mall looking for two stores. Icings, which we found, unbelievably carried the elusive earrings!! Excitement! Joy! I had failed to bring any cash with me and wasn't about to write a check for $4.50. Disappointment. Downcastedness. Oh well. I hid them behind a hundred other pairs so I wouldn't be able to find them next time I came, and headed out to meet James, who has never come in with me since the day I forced him along in Deptford. We never found the other store we were looking for; they must only have them at Deptford. I did notice that the game store is missing! Curses! There used to be a shop that sold board games just outside of Boscov's next to the coffee beanery. (how do you spell beanery?)

Having gone all over the mall, not finding anything else interesting to look at (except through the window of DEB), we made our way back to Mom who was nearly ready to leave. There was some question at the register as to the price of one item, but I took down the sign that said they were on sale and brought it to the front so the woman could see it. Then of course, I put it back and we left. James loaded the stuff in the back of the car and Mom drove us to Staples, where James could look for his needed items. I sat in the car.

By this time, I was tired of walking. Just let me sit here a minute and I'll be ready to tackle Walmart.

The phone rang.

Not my phone. My mom had left hers in the car. I picked it up and heard a familiar voice on the other end. "Hi Leslie! This is Danielle."

She was calling to get together the next day and bring over some dresses for me to alter for Rachel's flower girls. "Sure, I'd be more than happy to work on putting sleeves into already-extremely-cute little dresses." Or something like that.

And what was your day like?

Dad left this morning for a gate job. Mom went with him for the ride. That left James and I alone with a few things to do. A rather short list for expecting to be at home all day.

Item #1
Any of y'all ever corrected your younger siblings' schoolwork for your mom? Ever hit on a subject you know a lot about or maybe enjoy a good deal? Like for instance, WWII or the French Revolution? Those are always fun.

Ever hit on a subject you don't know much about? or would rather it stayed that way? I really think I could have gone my whole life and never cared that I couldn't tell you why a centipede is not an arachnid.

Really.

Item #2
James and Dad have been putting siding on the addition. In an attempt to further the project, James and I were employed as siding nailer-uppers. :-D

This one's James showing me how to make a plumb line.

This is me helping by holding one end of it.

This is me pulling staples out of the ones that went on crooked.

This one is James putting it back on.

And this is the finished thing. :-D
