It's a blustery day (outside).
|
I awoke this morning to the sound of rain on my window. The clouds had made my room dark. I had slept until eight thirty since the sun did not come around to wake me. The leaves are all wet. The trees are swaying violently in the wind. Each drop of rain, as it hits the window, does not make its own trail down the pane, but melds together with thousands of other drops to create a melting look, as though the glass has become like wax, dripping down itself.
There are two really great places to be on a day like this. One is curled up beside the fireplace, where the warmth of the blaze chases away the chill of the wind and rain, where you are only affected by the sight of leaves holding onto their branches seemingly by sheer willpower, and where you can only feel the chill by touching the windowpane, cold and hard. This is the place most people seem to choose on a day such as this.
Not me.
The other great place to be, and I think the best place, is down at the other end of our driveway, where the two pine trees stand on either side of the gravel path and shelter you from the biting wind and the sharp slashing of the rain. You can stand there and hear the wind whistling through the tops of the pines. Imagine the sound of a car coming down the road at 50 mph. In the rain. Minus the sound of the motor. It's loud. Constant. Droning. Wonderful. It's the same sound that you hear when you stand between those pine trees.
It's freezing. You are still pelted by a few drops of rain that make their way between the branches. You can still feel the chill in the air. You can see the wetness of the leaves on the other trees. The pine needles are soft, but you don't touch them, because they hold more water among them than any other tree.
It's such a beautiful day. I just love the rain. |

I love the rain too,and have a few favorite places to be when its raining. One is in the very back left corner of our yard, surrounded by pine trees. I especially like it there when the wind is whipping across the field and gathers around me as it is barred by the trees on the other side. Another place is sitting on a rocking chair on the porch at Tri-state, snuggled in my forest green fleece blanket.

The ShugaBowl |
Sounds like some kind of sports thing, but in reality, the ShugaBowl is just a little hideaway for me, Sugarcube herself, to let loose my thoughts and occasional creativeness. |
